The Detroit News (Washington D.C.) - General Motors Co. said today it is recalling 10,179 Buick LaCrosse and Cadillac SRX 2011 vehicles in the United States to fix a software glitch in the climate control system.
GM said the glitch could prevent the defroster from clearing the windshield. If the defroster doesn't work when needed, it can decrease the driver's visibility, which could result in a crash.
GM knows of no crashes or injuries related to this condition. Dealers will fix the issue by reprogramming the software. About a third of the affected vehicles are in customer possession.
GM discovered the issue last month as part of a production trial run to revise the software. Just one of 50 vehicles during the trial run had the glitch.
Most of the vehicles — more than 8,000 — are SRX models.
