USA TODAY - A lawsuit claims General Motors Co. a defective part on the police versions of the Chevrolet Impala -- but didn't fix the same defect hundreds of thousands of other Impalas.
According to the Associated Press, a class-action lawsuit filed last week in Detroit alleges that 2007 and 2008 model Impalas have defective spindle rods connecting the suspension to the rear wheels. The defect misaligns the wheels, which makes the Chevy chew up tires faster.
The lawsuit claims GM told dealers to replace both the spindle rods and the tires on affected cop cars and even authorized dealers to reimburse police department that had already bought new tires.
But it says GM didn't offer the remedy to civilian owners.Chevy sold a whopping 423,000 Impalas from those model years.
The AP says a GM spokesman was not immediately available to comment today.
