Gasgoo.com (Shanghai May 15) - In a recent survey done by auto quality website 12365auto.com, Volkswagen's faulty DSG gearboxes was found to be the most complained about problem among automobile owners, the Guangzhou Daily reported today. The most common complaint was that dealer supported upgrades failed to resolve issues with the gearboxes, which affect several models from both Shanghai VW and FAW-VW, including the Magotan, Sagitar, Golf and Lavida.
Workers at an automobile maintenance shop in Jilin's capital of Changchun commented that they have had an influx of customers reporting problems with the DSG gearboxes in their VWs since last year. Common problems include spontaneous vibrations and noises when using the gearbox. There have also been reported incidents across the country of the vehicle's engine not functioning properly or the drive system shutting off entirely.
However, the report mentions that several Chinese consumers are still optimistic that the issue will be resolved soon. They are anxiously awaiting to see what results the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) will find in its ongoing investigation of the problem. Two months ago, AQSIQ officially began collecting feedback from affected VW owners to analyze the severity of the issue.
VW has previously announced that it will supply software upgrades to solve the problem. However, the manufacturer has constantly denied that the issue constitutes a valid safety risk, and as such has avoided ordering a vehicle recall. AQSIQ's Defective Products Management Center has previously sent a request to the manufacturer, pushing them to resolve the issues as soon as possible.
