VW's board of directors holds conferences in Chengdu

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai August 24) - German automobile giant Volkswagen Group's board of directors held a conference in Sichuan's capital of Chengdu today, chengdu.cn reported today. Board Chairman Martin Winterkorn personally flew in to attend the conference. In addition to the company conference, VW executives visited FAW-VW's Chengdu Branch office, located in the city's Economic and Technical Development Zone.

Li Hua, deputy director of the Chengdu Development Zone, said that most of VW's top managerial staff came, including production, sales, finance, purchasing, human resources and R&D directors, as well as staff from subsidiary brands Audi, Porsche and Bentley. A slew of Phaeton sedans were waiting to transport staff. High level provincial and municipal government officials also made their appearance.

VW is looking to expand its business into Sichuan as a platform to target second- and third-tier cities in central and western China.
