Gasgoo.com (Shanghai May 23) - Construction work on Shanghai Volkswagen's production site in Yizheng, Jiangsu has essentially been completed, with the site scheduled to begin production soon, the Beijing Youth Daily reported today. The site, which was officially agreed upon in July 2010, has been over two years in the making.
Over 90 percent of the site's 2,000-plus workforce are new employees. In order to deal with this influx of new staff, the site's Training Center opened its doors last week. At the center's opening ceremony (pictured), Shanghai VW General Manager Zhang Hailiang conveyed his high hopes for the new center. "I wholeheartedly expect the Shanghai VW Yizheng Plant Training Center…to help cultivate highly-qualified and talented workers [and] support the continued development of new talent for the company," Mr. Zhang stated.
The 8,312 square meter center was reportedly built according to the recent standards from VW AG's headquarters in Germany. It possesses 11 technological laboratories, seven non-technical training rooms, four testing rooms, two conference rooms and two offices, as well as a workshop specifically focused on providing Grundfertigkeiten technological and Lean production training. The center will not only help serve Yizheng factory, but also aid in the cultivation of automotive talent from the Zhejiang region.
