Shanghai, December 31 (Gasgoo.com) Jiangling Motors has decided to kick off the JX4D30 engine project, which aims to upgrade its current 4JB1 engine to meet future emission standards, reported Shihua Financial Information today. The company will spend 11 million yuan for initial research and development.

The JX4D30 engine manufacturing base, now under the second-phase construction, will have an annual capacity of 100,000 units annually after operation starts in late 2011. JMC expects the JX4D30 engine will meet the ever strict emission standards in the future and better match new models.

JMC produced 5,963 vehicles and sold 6233 in November 2008, down 29.89% and 14.79% year on year respectively. For the first eleven months of this year, the automaker posted output and sales of 88,795 units and 88,649 units, up 4.03% and 5.11% year on year respectively.

The automaker has seen sales growth slow down since the third quarter, due to impacts caused by the economic downturn on commercial vehicles market.
