Fiat Grande Punto offers 6,000 yuan discount
Shanghai, January 16 (Gasgoo.com) In August 2008, Fiat Auto imported its A0-lcass car model Grande Punto to the Chinese market, with its selling price set between 148,800 yuan ($21,800) and 166,600 yuan. Now the Fiat model offers a discount of 6,000 yuan at the Fiat 4S stores, said xinhuanet.com today.
As a fashionable and powerful 1.4L hatchback, the Fiat Grande Punto has drawn much attention from Chinese customers over the past five months. At a Fiat 4S store in Beijing, the Grande Punto is in short supply and there are only few color choices. The sales staff said that Grande Punto buyers can now get a discount of 6,000 yuan and even free decorating from the store.
Grande Punto first went on sale in late 2005 in Europe. The model was based on the Fiat/GM SCCS platform. The car's nose, headlights and front grill look reminiscent of the Maserati Coupe, both were designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro of ItalDesign.
A sedan version of the Grande Punto, the Fiat Linea, was launched in early 2007 to replace the aging Fiat Marea. It was built on an extended version of the Grande Punto's chassis giving it a total length of 4,600 mm and bringing it to the small family car segment.
Grande Punto and the Linea sedan were both imported to China in August 2008 for Fiat to retain its presence in the Chinese market after the Italian automaker terminated its joint venture with Nanjing Auto and was seeking a new Chinese partner.
