FAW-Toyota sales surge 129% in 2008

Shanghai, February 2 (Gasgoo.com) FAW-Toyota, the joint venture between China's FAW Group and Japanese carmaker Toyota Motor, reported sales of 372,688 vehicles in 2008, surging by 129% over a year before, Shanghai Securities News reported today.

Now FAW-Toyota ranks fourth among top 10 Chinese automakers by sales in 2008, just behind FAW-VW, Shanghai-VW and Shanghai-GM.

Brands under FAW-Toyota all saw sales growth exceeding 80% for the past year. Toyota hybrid Prius posted the best achievements, with sales increasing by 217% to 899.

Another three brands Corolla, Reiz and Crown also contributed to large sales. Corolla sold 52,248 units for the whole year, rising by 86% year on year. Reiz sales surged by 101% to 46,953 units in 2008. The luxury car brand Crown saw sales rise 87% to 46, 442 units last year.
