Vehicle recalls total 140,000 in past two months

Shanghai, February 3 (Gasgoo.com) A total of 7 global and domestic automakers recalled more than 140,000 vehicles in China over the past two months, figures released by China's quality supervisor - the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (GAQSIQ) showed.

Fujian-based Southeast Motor said on Monday it is expanding its earlier recall of Mitsubishi Galant vehicles produced between Nov. 2, 2006 and April 3, 2007 to those made between Nov. 2, 2006 and Nov. 24, 2007. The recall this time covers 3,630 Galant sedans. Southeast Motor has already recalled 8,570 Galant vehicles since last June due to the polluted generator chip.

British luxury saloon maker Jaguar is recalling 87 sedans in China over warning system flaws. The recall started from Jan. 5 and involved vehicles produced between Oct. 2007 and March 2008.

Japanese automaker Subaru also started to recall 1,135 Tribeca SUVs it has sold in China since January 6 because of control system flaws.

Moreover, Japan's Mitsubishi Motors, Toyota Motor Corp, Ferrari Maserati, Daimer AG all issued recalls in China in December 2008 owing to various defects.
