Guangdong '08 auto-parts export-import up 20%

Shanghai, February 11 (Gasgoo.com) The imported and exported auto parts of China's Guangdong province were valued at $3.78 billion in 2008, up 20% from 2007, China’s customs statistics showed. The total value of imported auto parts reached $2.26 billion, up 13.2% year on year. The exported components were valued at $1.52 billion, up 32% year on year. Some features are as follows:

General trade plays the major part in the import and export business. Guangdong imported auto parts worth of $2 billion by general trade, up 10% and accounting for 88.1% of the total imports, while the imports through the processing trade fell 5.3% to $1.09 billion, taking up 4.7% of the total imports value. At the same time, Guangdong exported auto parts worth of $1.09 billion through general trade, increasing by 208.7% and making up 71.8% of the total exports value, and exports through the processing trade grew by 38.5% to $390 million, accounting for 25.8% of the total exports value.

Japan and America ranked first in the import markets and export markets respectively. Guangdong imported components worth of $2.02 billion from Japan, up10% and accounting for 89.3% in the total imports. Imports of auto parts from the European Union (EU) were up 20% to reach $120 million, taking 5.4% in the total imports value. Imports of auto parts from the ASEAN (the Association of Southeast Asian Nations) were valued at $37.8 million, up 5.3% and accounting for 1.7% of the total imports value.

In the same year, Guangdong's exports of auto parts for America reached $310 million, up 5.4% and taking up 20.5% of the total exports value. Exports of auto parts for Japan were valued at $270 million, up 42.4% and accounting for 17.5% of the total exports. The accumulated value of auto parts exports for the European Union reached $210 million, up 26.4% and taking up 13.7% of the total exports.

The imports and exports value of foreign-owned companies accounted for 65% and 50% of the total respectively. The foreign-owned companies in Guangdong saw imported auto parts up 4.1% to $1.48 billion, accounting for 65.3% of the total imports value, and their exports grew 36.7% to $790 million, making up 51.9% of the total exports value.

The state-owned companies' imported auto parts increased by 37% to $680 million, making up 30% of the total imports value, and their exports were up 11.7% to $260 million. The private-owned companies' exported auto parts were valued at $440 million, rising 35.2% and making up 28.9% of the total exports value.

The AT (automatic transmission) is the main imported product and other auto parts are the major exported products. In 2008, Guangdong imported transmissions and the related auto parts worth of $1.18 billion, up 25.1% and accounting for 52% of the total imports value. Other imported auto parts increased 6.9% to $580 million, accounting for 25.7% of the imports value. The imported components of the auto bodywork fell 6.3% to $240 million, accounting for 10.4% of the imports value.

Other exported auto parts increased by 32% to $560 million, making up 36.7% of the total exports value. The exported wheels and the related components were up 10.1% to $330 million, making 21.5% of the total exports. The exported components of the auto bodywork were up 16.6% to $260 million, making up 17% of the total exports.
