Nissan Motor's China venture says not to cut jobs

Shanghai, February 16 (Gasgoo.com) Nissan Motor's Chinese venture Dongfeng Nissan will not cut jobs and will continue expanding its plant, Ren Yong, Dongfeng Nissan vice general manager, said to China Business News recently.

Japan-based Nissan Motor, a partner of China's Dongfeng Motor, announced that it is looking to cut around 20,000 workers from its global workforce as it is on the brink of recording its first fiscal year loss for almost a decade.

Dongfeng Nissan, a joint venture between Nissan Motor and Dongfeng Motor, confirmed that the company will not follow Nissan's global plan to cut jobs. Though Dongfeng Nissan posted a satisfying growth last year, Nissan still set a cautious sales target for the JV in 2009.

Nissan's 2008 sales in China reached 545,000 units, up 19% year on year. Its passenger vehicle plant Dongfeng Nissan sold 350,520 units, increasing by 28.91%.
