China vehicle sales in Peru to grow 15% in '09

The sales of Chinese vehicles in Peru may register a growth of 15 percent this year despite the impact of the global crisis in the automotive industry, totaling 3,500 units, estimated today Altos Andes importer group.

The brand manager of the company, Augusto Bezada, indicated this segment, consisting of sedans, van and SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) cars, registered the purchase of 2,500 units last year, 5.4 percent of total market’s sales.

This represented an important milestone because in 2007 the participation of sold Chinese vehicles was 2.2 percent, he said, estimating that sales of Chinese light vehicles will amount to 3,500 in 2009, that is, a 7% expansion in its market participation.

"This year is expected that customers rationalize their purchases looking for more affordable vehicles, which gives an advantage to Chinese cars because they are the cheapest in the market," he said.
