China March car sales up 10.3% y/y, at record
China's car sales in March climbed to a monthly record, extending gains from the previous month, helped by government policy measures to bolster demand in both urban and rural areas.
Passenger car sales came to 772,400 in March, up 10.26 percent from a year earlier, and up 27.2 percent from February, data provided by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers showed.
Total vehicle sales -- including cars, buses and trucks --came to a monthly record of 1.11 million units in March, up 5.01 percent from a year earlier, the data showed.
China, which overtook the United States as the world's No. 1 auto market in January, had posted car sales growth above 20 percent for three years in a row until slowing economic growth began to erode demand last year.
Car sales growth slowed to a single-digit rate in 2008 for the first time in at least 10 years.
