China March car sales up 10.3% y/y, at record
Passenger car sales came to 772,400 in March, up 10.26 percent from a year earlier, and up 27.2 percent from February, data provided by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers showed.
Total vehicle sales -- including cars, buses and trucks --came to a monthly record of 1.11 million units in March, up 5.01 percent from a year earlier, the data showed.
China, which overtook the United States as the world's No. 1 auto market in January, had posted car sales growth above 20 percent for three years in a row until slowing economic growth began to erode demand last year.
Car sales growth slowed to a single-digit rate in 2008 for the first time in at least 10 years.
