Guangzhou Honda officially renamed Guangqi Honda
Shanghai, April 23 (Gasgoo.com) Guangzhou Honda Automobile Co was officially renamed "Guangqi Honda Automobile Co" on the opening day of Shanghai auto show, according to the company's press materials.
"The new name is not only an embodiment of the brands and names of both parties in the joint venture, but is also an integration of corporate brand and sales channel that has laid down solid foundations for the establishment of a dual-brand operating mechanism, namely Honda and Linian, " said Yao Yiming, the Executive Deputy Manager of Guangzhou Honda.
He also said that the renaming of the company will free it of the regional limitation implied in the original name so that the company can compete in the global automobile industry with a wider and more global perspective.
The joint venture automaker brought four competitive models to the auto show, including the 8th generation Accord, next generation Fit, the City, next generation Odyssey and an independent Linian brand.
Guangqi Honda sold 72,645 vehicles in the first quarter of 2009, representing a sales growth of 1.4 percent over the same period a year earlier.
