Shanghai, May 12 (Gasgoo.com) FAW VW, the Chinese joint venture (JV) between Volkswagen AG and First Automotive Works (FAW), will build Jetta series and next-generation Sagitar model at its planned Chengdu plant, the Beijing Morning Post reported.

An unnamed company source told the newspaper that the plant would begin to build an updated Jetta from the end of next year. Meanwhile the next-generation Sagitar will also be built there.

FAW VW reaffirmed an investment of 5 billion yuan (US$735.3 million) in its newly acquired Chengdu facility over the weekend, according to state-run Xinhua news agency.

The plant is expected to have an annual output of 150,000 vehicles, and it will employ around 4,500 workers.

Xu Jianyi, FAW's general manager, said the new investment was made in an effort to support reconstruction of Sichuan, which was hit by a devastating earthquake on May 12 last year.
