Shanghai, June 10 (Gasgoo.com) Beijing Foton Cummins Engine Company Limited (BFCEC), a 50:50 joint venture between U.S-based Cummins Inc. and China's Beiqi Foton Motor, put its production line into operation today, producing Cummins light-duty, high-performance ISF diesel engines, xinhuanet.com reported.

With a power range from 109-170 horsepower, the new ISF2.8 and ISF3.8 meet stringent emission standards worldwide, including Euro IV and above. The ISF engines will be supplied to both the Chinese and overseas markets. The Foton Cummins ISF3.8 diesel engine will be produced and used in Beiqi Foton's Aumark, Auman, Ollin and MP-X vehicles.

Cummins and Foton Motor have invested $146 million together in the joint venture. BFCEC will have an annual capacity of 400,000 units. When operating at full capacity, BFCEC will be Cummins' highest volume manufacturing plant and one of the largest light-duty engine manufacturing facilities in China.

BFCEC represents a further expansion of Cummins' product line in China, where the company already is the leading foreign producer of heavy-duty and mid-range diesel engines. Today, Cummins operates 26 facilities in China - including 15 manufacturing sites - representing all areas of the Company's business.

In addition to the 400,000-engine plant, Beiqi Foton already has a 200,000-unit Ollin engine production line and is planning a 300,000-unit gasoline-direct-injection engine production facility. All these will help make Beiqi Foton the world's largest engine-production base, targeting annual output of one million units.
