Shanghai, June 25 (Gasgoo.com) China's Chery Automobile Co is planning to launch a pure hydrogen powered vehicle in the coming three years, Jinghua newspaper reports Thursday.

Yuan Tao, deputy general manager of Chery, said at an industry forum that Chery is set to make breakthroughs in hydrogen fuel technologies in the next three years and at the meantime strengthens the R&D of methanol and turbo charging technologies.

Early in 2006 Chery has created the country's first hydrogen fuel cell car in a partnership with Tsinghua University and J&K Technologies Inc. That car is equipped with a new drivetrain with only a 10 percent increase in cost over a regular internal combustion motor. Top speed is said to be 80km/h.
