BMW China June sales up 46% y/y to 8,033 cars
Shanghai, July 7 (Gasgoo.com) BMW AG said yesterday that its core BMW brand sales in China surged 46% year-on-year (y/y) in June to 8,033 cars, while its global sales fell 12.7% in the month, media reported.
The sales increase was mainly fueled by growing demand for the BMW X5 and X6 models. Sales in China for both the BMW and the compact Mini brand rose 44% y/y 8,506 cars, a company spokesman said.
In the first half of the year, sales of the BMW brand in China grew 25% to 35,861 cars. Including sales for the Mini brand, the first-half sales came to 37,627 cars, up 24% y/y.
BMW's 5-series model continues to be the German carmaker's best-selling car in China, followed by the 3-series.
Globally, BMW's group vehicles sales fell 12.7% in June to 127,546 units, bringing the first-half decline to 19.5% amid a sharp economic slump, the world's biggest premium carmaker said today.
The compact Mini brand saw its global sales come in at 22,273 cars in June, down 8.9% y/y. In the January-to-June period, Mini posted a 20% sales fall to 101,534 cars.
