Dongfeng may become China's No. 2 automaker

Dongfeng Automobile Co., Ltd. saw a revenue of 39.046 billion yuan in the first half of 2009, with a 3.0% increase year on year; and net profit of 2.606 billion yuan, with a 5.4% climb year on year; citing its financial report.

In contrast, China's largest automaker Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (Group) (SAIC) saw an operating revenue of 61.585 billion yuan in the first half of 2009, rising 6.85% year on year; and net profit of 1.416 billion yuan, dropping 26.43% year on year.

Besides, SAIC still ranked the first by sales volume, which hit 1.4399 million units in the first half and 222,700 in July 2009, according to a data report released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).

Notably, the sales volume of Dongfeng Automobile got to 163,700 units in July alone, outpacing the number of 157,000 from China FAW Group Corporation.
