Shanghai, September 9 (Gasgoo.com) Chinese rechargeable battery and electric car maker BYD Co has recently launched a 160,000-squre meter proving ground near its Shenzhen headquarter, which is the first such proving ground owned by a homegrown automaker.

The automotive proving ground has facilities mainly for high speed testing of complete vehicles as well as many other mechanical testing of auto parts, car body and suspensions.

Currently China has four major automotive proving grounds, located in Hainan, Xiangfan, Beijing and Shanghai respectively; most of them are built by joint venture automakers.

In late July Changan Auto began construction of a proving ground in Chongqing for testing of commercial and passenger vehicles. The ground cost a total investment of 1.2 billion yuan and will start operation within two years.
