Dongfeng Motor starts building new heavy-truck plant
Shanghai, May 24 (Gasgoo.com) Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle Company, a subsidiary company under Dongfeng Motor Co., Ltd., yesterday started construction of a new heavy-duty truck plant in Shiyan city, central Hubei province, local media reported.
The new factory being built by and for the commercial vehicle unit of the Dongfeng-Nissan joint venture will have an annual production capacity of 80,000 heavy-duty trucks, of which the first-phase project of 40,000-unit capacity is scheduled to start production in June 2011.
Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle Company sold 33,691 commercial vehicles in April. Sales in the first four months were up 138% year on year to 111,053 units, of which heavy commercial vehicle sales were 70,373 units, accounting for nearly 70% of the total sales.
Dongfeng Motor Co. Ltd., a joint venture between Dongfeng Motor Corp and Nissan Motor, sold heavy commercial vehicles 60,500 units, up 196% y/y, according to the financial report of Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle Company.
Earlier this month, the venture's passenger car unit, Dongfeng-Nissan Passenger Vehicle Company, began building its second plant in Guangzhou city's Huadu district. The 240,000-unit factory will also begin production in 2012.
