FAW-VW Foshan plant to produce Audi models
Construction of the new plant will start at the end of this month, with a total investment of 8 billion yuan ($1.17 billion). The new plant is likely to start production of Audi models in 2013, the publicity department at the FAW-VW joint venture revealed recently.
Reportedly, models to be produced at the new plant are probably the MQB (Modular Transverse Matrix) -based Audi models, such as the A3, A1, and Q3. While models based on the MQB transverse engine platform like the A4L and A6L will be made in the joint venture's Changchun plant, in China's northeast Jilin province in the future. Moreover, the new generation A6L will be put into production in 2011.
In addition, a foreign trade official of Foshan city recently said that FAW-VW will enter into the contract with the Foshan government on June 9, and confirmed that Shanghai VW has not decided to build the plant in Nanhai yet.
