The new March supermini, called Micra in the West and India, hits the Chinese market on August 30 in four trims, all with a l.5-liter engine. Built by Nissan and its partner Dongfeng Motor, it is marketed in China under the concept of "easy life," targeting young consumers in big metropolitan areas.

The 1.5-liter engine (HR15DE), featuring CVTC (continuously variable-valve timing control), is all new to the Nissan lineup in China, and rated at 79/6000(kW/rpm) and 138/4800(Nm/rpm). It is matched with either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic gearbox.

The new March’s closest rivals are Suzuki Swift, Honda Fit, Hyundai Accent, and Toyota Yaris. With a wheelbase of 2450mm and body length of 3779mm, it is noticeably bigger than the current Swift and smaller than the Accent and Fit.

Although commendable in every major aspect as a mini city car, it rarely excels. Knowing this, Nissan prices it between 69,900 and 92,900 yuan, a competitive range that leans towards the low end of analysts’ estimates.
