BMW to recall 6009 imported X5 cars in China

Shanghai November 10 (Gasgoo.com) German automaker BMW AG will recall 6,009 imported BMW X5 cars in mainland China due to the possibility of fuel pump failures, bitauto.com reported Wednesday, citing a statement posted on the website of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ).

The recall starting November 15 will involve the BMW X5 3.0 cars produced between November 11, 2007 and August 30, 2008.

Abnormal wear caused when the carbon brushes pressing tightly against the commutators inside the fuel pump motor (mounted inside the fuel tank) may lead to fuel pump failure, causing the car not to start. If the fuel pump stops working while the car is running, the engine will suddenly stop. Meanwhile, the car will lose power assist for the steering and brakes, and would require much more strength from the driver though the steering and brakes are still working, posing a security risk, the AQSIQ said.

BMW (China) Trading Co., Ltd. said it will replace the fuel pumps at no charge to owners.

Owners can contact BMW's franchised dealers in China for repair, or call its hotline, 400-800-6666 for information.

For more information, owners can contact the AQSIQ at 010-59796616/65537365, or visit its website at www.dpac.gov.cn.
