BYD G6 to launch at 2010 Guangzhou Auto Show
The G6 sedan is an upmarket version of the I6 model, originally a mid-end model when it first appeared on the Beijing Auto Show earlier this year. With constant improvements made, the I6 sedan takes up characteristics of high-end models and is now being listed in the G-series. The sedan is spacious: length of 4, 860 mm and a long wheel-base of 2,745 mm. BYD developed two sets of engines for the G6: one uses the Mitsubishi 4G69 2.4L engine with a maximum power of 163 kW, and the other features BYD's 483QB 2.0L engine of maximum power of 163 kW.
The I6-to-G6 upgrade serves as a witness to BYD's improvement in car-manufacturing. In April this year, BYD successfully purchased a Japanese mold factory, through which it further improved its already-leading mold manufacture technology in China. In May this year, BYD achieved remarkable progress with its joint venture with Daimler. During the same period, BYD upgraded the I6 sedan in power, manoeuvering, safety and other aspects.
BYD's sales networks are divided into A1, A2, A3 and A4. The G6 will be sold in BYD's A3 sales network, made up of mid-to-high end BYD models.
