Nissan's global sales rise 17.9% in November
Nissan has announced that its global sales in November 2010 increased 17.9% year-on-year to 340,559 units, marking an all-time record for the month. The November total took sales in the April-November 2010 period to 2,679,101, an 18.3% rise from the total of 2,265,127 reported in the same eight months of 2009.
The rise in November sales was driven entirely by overseas sales, which increased 25.4% to 298,669 units, leaving the April-November 2010 total at 2,275,095 (1,885,114: +20.7%). In contrast, sales in Japan (including mini-cars) in November were 41,890, down 17.4% from the November 2009 level, with registrations excluding mini-cars down 21.3% at 31,482. Sales in the April-November 2010 period amounted to 404,006 (including mini-cars), a 6.3% rise from the 2009 total of 380,013.
Despite positive sales results for the new Elgrand, which was launched in August, the new March, which was launched in July and the Juke, which was launched in June, the termination of the Japanese government's subsidy programme for environmentally friendly vehicles and the transition period to the new generation Serena resulted in the overall sales decrease for Nissan in Japan.
The 298,669 sales outside of Japan marked an all-time record for the month of November.
Sales in the US increased 26.8% year-on-year to 71,366 units, due to increased demand for the new Juke launched in October, the Rogue, and the Versa. In Europe, sales increased 16.5% year-on-year to 51,480 units, due to increased demand for the new Juke launched in October and the Qashqai. In China, November sales saw an increase of 29.8% year-on-year to 90,952 units, due to high demand for the new March introduced in August, Sylphy and Qashqai, marking an all-time record for the month of November. Sales in other regions increased 32.3% year-on-year to 62,531 units, due to increased demand in Thailand and India, where the new March/Micra was launched.
Nissan's global production in November 2010 increased 18.5% year-on-year to 372,106 units, marking an all-time record for the month. Production in Japan increased 0.1% year-on-year to 96,117 units, mainly due to increased demand for export models, led by the Rogue. Passenger car production alone rose 1.3% to 85,962, while commercial vehicle output declined 8.7% to 10,155.
Production outside of Japan saw an increase of 26.6% year-on-year to 275,989 units, again marking an all-time record for the month of November. In the US, production decreased 8.6% year-on-year to 37,042 units due to US plants extending closures for an additional two days at Thanksgiving in 2010, compared to 2009. In Mexico, production increased 37.8% year-on-year to 48,304 units, due to increased demand for all models, especially the Tiida.
In the UK, production increased 26.1% year-on-year to 44,614 units, due to increased demand for the new Juke and Qashqai while in Spain, production saw a jump of 110.4% year-on-year to 12,645 units, mainly due to increased demand for the Primastar and NV200 models.
In China, production increased 19.4% year-on-year to 91,633 units due to increased demand for the new March and NV200, marking an all-time record for the month of November and production in other regions was up 72.5% year-on-year to 41,751 units, due to increased output in Thailand and India, where the new March/Micra is produced.
The November output level left total global production in the April-November 2010 period at 2,755,649, up 28.5% from the 2009 total of 2,144,933. Production in Japan was up 29.8% at 343,384 (264,691) while overseas production was up 33.9% at 1,997,594 (1,491,497).
