Not just Beijing, but some other major Chinese cities are also suffering from traffic woes. In Guangzhou however, residents are still keen to buy cars, because they're worried their city will adopt license plate-control measures similar to Beijing.

One consumer said "If the price is acceptable, I'd like to buy one this year while the preferential policies are still in effect."

Auto dealers are seizing this opportunity to roll out a variety of promotions. Some models have sold out, and customers can only pre-order and take delivery next year.

One car seller said "Many consumers are concerned the license plate number odd-even traffic restrictions during the Asian Games will be adopted again in the future. So some car owners are planning to buy another car."

One car seller said "I'm glad to see our sales volume has jumped by 10 to 20 percent."

It's expected more than 30 thousand license plates will be registered this December, hitting a record high. Related departments are considering issuing more measures to relieve traffic congestion.
