Mazda expects China to account for 24 percent of its global sales volume by 2016
Gasgoo.com (Shanghai July 27) - Despite its poor performance in the country during the first half of the year, Mazda still has full confidence in its future in the Chinese market. Yamada Noriaki, chairman and CEO of Mazda China, recently stated that he expects Mazda's global sales to top 1.7 million vehicles by 2016, of which China would account for 400,000 sales, the Beijing Youth Daily reported today. If it fulfills those lofty goals, China would be the manufacturer's largest market alongside the US.
Judging from the mere 103,000 vehicles Mazda managed to sell in the country so far, it looks so far that the manufacturer will be unable to reach its sales target this year. Similarly Mazda has revised its global sales target down to 260,000 vehicles. Although the target is still higher than last year, it is still far less than its rival manufacturers.
Mazda plans to expand the number of dealers in the country from 312 to 370 outlets by the end of this year. Mr. Yamada said that plans for the new independent Changan Mazda joint venture are already in the final stage of examination by the government.
