Shanghai VW sales in China total 124370 units in November

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai December 10) - Shanghai Volkswagen sold a total of 124,370 VW and Skoda brand vehicles over the first eleven months of the year, Gasgoo.com (Chinese) reported today, citing official statistics from the joint venture. The figure represents year-on-year growth of 23.2 percent for the JV.

Shanghai VW has sold over 1.2 million vehicles from January to November, greater than the total amount it sold in the whole of 2011. Thanks to its brand name and overall quality, several of Shanghai VW's models have managed to lead their respective segments.

November sales of the JV's VW models totaled 104,544 units, 24.3 percent higher than the figure reported a year ago. The Lavida series brought in 31,697 orders over the month, helped in no small part by the New Lavida (pictured above). In less than four months on the market, the New Lavida has managed to lead the compact segment, having accumulated over 76,553 sales. Monthly sales of the Passat family totaled 23,910 units, 42 percent more than a year ago. The new Polo GTI (pictured below) managed to help the Polo series' sales total 15,729 units this month. Sales of the Tiguan urban SUV and Touran minivan totaled 12,106 units and 3,791 units, respectively. Finally, the classic Santana attracted 11,674 more orders in November. After 29 years in service, the Santana brand will be seeing a revamp with a brand new updated version to be making its official market debut before long.

Skoda vehicle sales last month totaled 19,826 units, growing 18.1 percent from November 2011. The brand's flagship model, the Octavia, brought in 12,305 new orders over the month. Monthly sales of the Superb midsize and Fabia subcompact totaled 3,797 units and 3,724 units, respectively. Over 840,000 Skodas have been sold in China over the past five years.
