Next generation Chery QQ to make Chinese market debut in March

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai February 19) - Chery's next generation QQ will be making its official market debut on March 1, xcar.com.cn reported today. Manufacture of the new QQ has already begun last month. It will be priced at 35,000 yuan ($5,569.21), and will be sold alongside the current QQ3.

The new QQ (pictured) has undergone a substantial exterior redesign. Thanks to a brand new fascia, the car manages to look very different from its predecessor. The original circular headlights are now replaced with an oval design. The front grille and fog lamps are now merged together, helping draw further attention to the car's unique, sporty design. From the side, the new QQ has much sleeker lines than ever before. The car's rear is very reminiscent of Changan's Benben Mini, with rear lights stacked on either side of its rear window.

Due to all of the changes, the new QQ is slightly larger than its predecessor. It measures 3.56 m long, 1.62 m wide and 1.53 tall, compared to 3.55 m long, 1.49 m wide and 1.48 m tall for the QQ3. It sports a 2.34 m wheelbase, unchanged from its predecessor.

The QQ's interior design is similar to the QQ3's. The central panel, gearshift and doors are outfitted with removable white panels, which can be swapped at a certified Chery 4S dealership for panels in the owner's preferred color.

No changes were made under the hood, as the QQ is still powered by a 1.0 L SQR371F engine producing up to 51 kW and 93 Nm of torque. According to statistics from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the car boasts a fuel consumption rate of 5.3 L for even 100 km driven.

The new QQ will be set up against the BYD F0, Geely Panda, Changan Benben Mini and similar models. The QQ brand is well recognized throughout the country, which, alongside the new car's attractive price point, will help boost its performance.
