GM sales in China expected to be around 3.5m this year

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai December 2) - General Motors sold its three millionth vehicle of the year in China in November, the Beijing Morning Post reported today. By comparison, GM’s three millionth vehicle of last year was made in December. GM Executive Vice President and GM China President Matt Tsien expects the manufacturer’s Chinese sales this year to be around 3.5 million vehicles, accounting for 14.6 percent of the country’s total vehicle sales.

Mr. Tsien remarked that GM’s performance in the luxury automobile, SUV and minivan segments was very impressive. He added that the manufacturer’s Chinese sales for 2018 are expected to reach 4.9 million vehicles, representing a market share of 16 percent. GM’s total production capacity is expected to break the five million vehicle mark at that time. By 2018, GM is expected to have released over 60 brand new and updated models. A total of 19 models have already been released this year alone, including the hot-selling Chevrolet Trax (pictured), new generation Chevrolet Cruze, Cadillac ATS-L, Buick Enclave and new Buick GL8. Meanwhile, at last month’s Guangzhou International Motor Show, GM-affiliated joint venture Shanghai GM announced that it would be the country’s first JV to offer 4G LTE service, which will appear on a Cadillac model scheduled to debut next year.
