China bans recycling auto parts in making vehicles

According to the Auto Product Recycling Technology Policy released jointly by NDRC, the Ministry of Science and Technology and the State Environmental Protection Administration recently, using imported recycling auto components or used materials in auto assembly and maintenance are strictly prohibited, but some auto parts, such as alternator and starter are not included in this requirement.

China has previously laid out policies aiming at increasing the recycling rate of all useless imported and domestic vehicles as well as auto components. However, these recycled auto components can only be used as raw materials for reproduction, any attempt to use them directly or re-process them in assembling new vehicles are forbidden, according to the recycling policies.

In addition, imports and re-processing of energy consuming, high-pollution and hazardous auto components are also prohibited. Any auto manufacturers who fail to meet the requirements would face legal punishments. A typical punishment is the suspension of production license.
