Roewe to debut in Camry's price range
SHANGHAI Automotive Industry Corp yesterday unveiled the price of its first self-branded model, putting the Roewe 750 in competition against foreign sedans in the mid-to-high range market.
The Roewe 750, powered by an 2.5-liter V6 engine, will be offered in three configurations at prices ranging from 231,800 yuan (US$28,975) to 276,800 yuan.
Its main rivals in China are expected to be the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord. The Chinese-made version of Toyota Motors Corp's top-selling Camry with an 2.0- or 2.4-liter engine is priced between 197,800 yuan and 269,800 yuan.
The Roewe 750 was developed around the Rover 75 after SAIC bought design and intellectual property rights from bankrupt British MG Rover Corp.
SAIC plans to launch 30 models in all mainstream market segments over the next five years.
