Shanghai. October 22 (Gasgoo.com) - French automaker Peugeot is planning to release four new car models while adding a second plant in China by 2009, Chinese media reported today.

Tang Teng, Vice General Manager of Dongfeng Peugeot told Auto.21cn.com that the company is set to offer at least four new model vehicles in China, and the second plant, which is still under construction will come into operation by the middle of 2009.

Dongfeng Peugeot is a joint venture between Peugeot and its Chinese partner Dongfeng Motor. The only production facility is located in Wuhan city, central China.

"In 2007, we aim to sell 95,000 vehicles, up 40 percent from last year," Tang said. Last year Dongfeng Peugeot delivered 81,279 units in the Chinese market.

By 2009, new models, namely high-end small and mid-sized cars will be introduced into the current lineup, but Tang did not give any specific about these models.

According to an earlier announcement, PSA's production capacity will reach 600,000 units by 2010 to 2012, once constructions of the second plant and expansion of the current one is finished.

Peugeot 407, 307 hatch-back, 207 and 308 are among the models possibly to be locally produced in China, according to industry analysts forecast.
