Chinese light truck maker Foton to launch a hatchback car next year

Shanghai. November 27 (Gasgoo.com) - China's Beiqi Foton Motor Company plans to start production of a hatchback car in the first half of next year, a senior Beiqi-Foton official announced at the recently concluded Guangzhou Auto show.
 
Wang Xiangyin told Guangzhou Daily that its first sedan will be a small hatchback, adding the automaker plans to launch at least one new sedan model a year in the coming three to four years.
 
The largest commercial vehicle producer in China is expected to sell 400,000 vehicles by the end of this year, up 20 percent year on year. The company also unveiled its first MPV equipped with a diesel engine, called MP-X Mengpaike, at the show.
 
Foton said that the company aims to sell one million vehicles a year by 2010, and 20% of those sales will be passenger vehicles. With a strong focus on technology improvement, Foton will develop models with displacement below 2.0L, hoping to compete with QQ, Alto in the compact vehicle segment.
