Shanghai. November 28 (Gasgoo.com) - Following the launch of Jeep Compass, Chrysler plans to introduce another Jeep model to Chinese market next March, a senior Chrysler official said.
"We will start to import the Jeep Wrangler next spring, priced at 400,000 yuan ($5,400) here, but customers can make orders starting today," Simon Elliott, president and CEO of Chrysler Group (China) Sales Ltd, said in an interview with Chinese auto industry website Cheshi.com.
Jeep Wrangler to be launched in Chinese market will be powered by a 3.8L V6 engine. The model also adds two extra doors by stretching the wheelbase 20.6 inches, which allows more interior space. Elliott said the model is the only four-door convertible on the market and would give Chinese Jeep lovers more options in choosing Chrysler jeeps.
Chrysler started to sell Jeep Compass in imported unit in China in September, which is in competition with locally-built Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4. Powered by a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine, the SUV is sold between 249,000 yuan to 289,000 yuan (US$33,200 - $38,500).
Early this month Chrysler's first Caravan rolled off assembly line in Fujian-based Southeast Motor, which is the first Dodge vehicle produced by the joint venture between Chrysler and Southeast Motor.
