China's Soueast Motor to sell Mitsubishi vehicles without Mitsubishi logo

Shanghai. January 30 (Gasgoo.com) - China's Soueast Motor Co will start to sell some new Mitsubishi Lancer, Galant vehicles using Soueast logo, not Mitsubishi logo this year, auto website Cheshi.com reported today.
 
The new Soueast Lancer, Ganlant vehicles will feature the same appearance and technical specifications as the original models. The automaker, however, did not say whether it will continue to sell Mitsubishi-logo vehicles, according to the report.
 
Soueast Motor Co is a three way joint venture between Fujian Motor Industry Group (50%), Taiwan’s China Motor Corp (25%) and Mitsubishi Corp (25%). It only sold 39,907 Mitsubishi and Soueast cars in 2007, lagging far behind its competitors.
 
Separately, the joint venture automaker also plans to launch a new local brand vehicle, a new Mitsubishi brand vehicle and some redesigned Soueast models in 2008, said Jian Qinglong, the company’s general manager.
 
Soueast Motor signed a 5,700 vehicle export agreement with an Iranian company late last month. Under the agreement, the Fujian-based Soueast Motor will export 5,700 Soueast Delica vehicles to Iran starting in early 2008.
 
Apart from Iran, Soueast Motor also exports vehicles to ten other countries, including Russia, Egypt, and Syria.
