Mercedes-Benz MPV to be made in Fujian for China market
Shanghai, April 11 (Gasgoo.com) The project of locally made Mercedes-Benz MPV for the Chinese market was started as Fujian Daimler Automotive Ltd inaugurated its facility in the Fuzhou Qingkou automobile city on April 9, It is the second as well as the last joint venture project in China's mainland by Daimler.
Ling Yuzhang, director of Fujian Daimler, said the first phase of the project will be finished and operated next year, with best-selling vehicle Mercedes-Benz Viano as the first product. Then Vito, Sprinter and some other vehicle models will be produced gradually in this facility. The first phase will be able to make 40,000 vehicles annually, and the second phase will be promoted to 60,000 units. Mercedes-Benz MPV will also has a new sales network in China, which will include 22-25 dealers next year.
Fujian Daimler is founded by Fujian Auto, Daimler, and Taiwan's automaker -- China Motor Corp., who hold 50%, 33.78% and 16.22% of the joint venture respectively.
Cai Che, global director of Daimler, noted that when completed, Fujian Daimler will become the biggest Mercedes-Benz MPV production base around the world. Mercedes-Benz MPV vehicles made in Fujian will be mainly delivered to the Chinese market, and some will be exported.
