Price of mid-class cars drops sharply despite soaring costs

Shanghai, May 21 (Gasgoo.com) The soaring raw material costs recently has brought enormous pressure to world-famous automakers and some of them have started to raise price in other markets. However, due to the particularity of China's auto market, Chinese automakers still have to reduce price.

The price of the Mazda 6-series lineup falls by 20,000 yuan ($2,860) to 159,800 yuan, Yu Hongjiang, vice general manager of FAW Mazda Motor Sales Co said at the 2008 Beijing auto show last month. According to dealers, many models of the Mazda 6-series lineup have been sold out.

The price of 2.0L MT Magotan now drops by 32,800 yuan to 160,000 yuan from 192,800 yuan.

Meanwhile, after hitting the market less than one year, the Mondeo Winning's price currently drops by 13,000 yuan with the model of lowest configurations priced at only 168,800 yuan. Dealers said this model is in short supply.

Teana is now priced at about 20,0000 yuan by a drop of 31,000 yuan as the brand-new Teana will go on sale. But the old Teana still gained poor sales, falling by 50% in April over March.

 Buick Excelle has also stopped the production of its old edition and now its price drops by 21,000 yuan. The old edition of Excelle sold nearly 64,000 units from January to April.

The old Elantra's price now drops by 8,000 yuan. And Elantra Yuedong still keeps a stable price with sales over 10,000 units for one month shortly after being put into the market.

The price of the eighth-generation Accord and 2008 Camry now drop by 5,000 yuan from previous rise of 10,000 yuan. Camry kept stable sales while Accord's sales waved fiercely in April. 2.0L Sportage of Dongfeng Yuedakia's price now has dropped by 14,000 yuan. The price of new Vios drops by the lowest 500 yuan according to different segments.

However, there is an exception. The price of new CR-V of Dongfeng Honda is still raised yet the rise is getting gradually smaller. Now the price of the black new CR-V is raised by 8,000 yuan, a slighter rise than the previous 20,000 yuan.
