Elon Musk will unveil an ‘unexpected’ Tesla product next week
October was already going to be a big month for Elon Musk and Tesla. Two days after releasing the company’s Q3 financial results on the 26th, Musk is scheduled to unveil the first product to come out of a collaboration between Tesla and SolarCity, which Tesla is planning to acquire: A solar roof.
But today, Musk added another event to the schedule — a surprise Tesla product unveiling slated for early next week.
It’s not immediately obvious what the product might be. But it’s possible Musk is making good on his promise to unveil the new version of the company’s at-home energy storage devices — the Powerwall and the Powerpack — by the end of the year.
“I think it’s going to be really exciting when people see it,” Musk said on a call discussing the second-quarter results. “That’s why I expect exponential growth from there. I think it’s really going to go ballistic.”
Another possibility is that Musk will be unveiling Autopilot 2.0. As Elektrek previously reported, the Tesla CEO said its semi-autonomous system will not be able to perform fully self-driving functions without a significant hardware update. That hardware upgrade will reportedly include additional cameras and radars situated around the car that may enable the system to better recognize objects.
