GM sales rise 5.7% in October on Cadillac, Baojun demand
SHANGHAI
-- General Motors delivered 345,733 vehicles in China last month, for a
gain of 5.7 percent from the same month last year, with growth led by
the Cadillac and Baojun brands.
Cadillac sales more than doubled from a year earlier to 12,502 cars and
light trucks. GM says it sold more than 4,700 XT5 crossovers in October,
but did not disclose sales tallies for other Cadillac models.
Baojun deliveries surged 30 percent year on year to 67,169 vehicles.
Sales of the Baojun 310 hatchback topped 11,000 vehicles in October
after it hit the market the previous month.
Buick deliveries rose 3.4 percent to 105,071 vehicles, while Chevrolet
sales edged up 2 percent to 52,195. By contrast, sales of Wuling
microvans dropped 6.8 percent to 108,760 vehicles as rural demand for
entry-level vehicles continued to contract.
Through October, GM's China sales have increased 8.6 percent from a year earlier to top 3 million vehicles.
To maintain momentum, Buick introduced the redesigned GL8 multi-purpose
vehicle in Shanghai on Sunday. It has been given a new name -- the
Avenir GL8 -- and is the first model to be marketed under Buick's new
premium subbrand.
GM also will unveil the Buick Velite plug-in hybrid concept car at the
Guangzhou auto show on November 18. The vehicle is a variant of the
Chevrolet Volt.
