Chery Jaguar Land Rover upgraded engine factory to produce three-cylinder 1.5T engine
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Chery Jaguar Land Rover's engine capacity expansion project will be basically completed in November this year by finishing the equipment installation and debugging. Reportedly, the upgraded engine factory will have an annual capacity up to 240,000 units from 130,000 units of the first phase.
The engine capacity expansion project merely focuses on revamping and adding facilities, without building new factories. Apart from upgrading the existing four-cylinder engine manufacturing facilities, the company aims to produce cylinder block, head and crankshaft of three-cylinder engines from the same series. After installing new equipment, the factory can produce four-cylinder and three-cylinder engines simultaneously.
Once the project is completed, Chery Jaguar Land Rover's aggregate engine capacity will be increased to 240,000 units per year. To be specific, the annual capacity of three-cylinder engine will be up to 140,000 units, while the capacity of four-cylinder engine will be cut by 30,000 units to 100,000 units on an annual basis.
There are some identical features shared by the three-cylinder and four-cylinder engines, which are ready to be put into production. For example, both of them are from Jaguar's Ingenium Family and use the same internal code of AJ200 I3. Apart from featuring straight-line formation, both types of engines adopt the modular design with the displacement of 0.5L per cylinder. The new three-cylinder engine can deliver two rated maximum powers of 147kW and 117.6kW and two rated maximum torque of 280Nm and 260Nm under different tuning conditions.
