Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Huawei Technologies Co.,Ltd. has got the right to use a piece of land at Baiyun District of Guangzhou by paying 339 million yuan ($51,946,868), according to Baiyun district government. The plot will be used to set up a R&D center, which is said to work on the R&D of intelligent vehicle-related technologies.

Under  an investment framework agreement signed in April, Huawei planned to establish a R&D hub in Baiyun District to boost the in-depth strategic collaboration with Guangzhou in projects like smart city, cloud computing and IoT (Internet of Things). Bidding for the land may signify Huawei's faster move on building its Guangzhou R&D center.

According to local government's planning, the plot was supposed to be used to construct facilities for businesses like technological innovation, digital government, smart transport and 5G, and develop the nascent industries such as AI, big data and blockchain, which are all in line with Huawei's main business.

Upon completion of the construction, the R&D center will engage in the R&D of intelligent vehicle, cloud computing and IoT technologies, promoting the application of Huawei's ICT (information communications technology) in various industries of Guangzhou.

The company has launched R&D centers in Shanghai and Suzhou. According to a local report, The Suzhou-based one will be responsible for a substantial portion of auto parts-related business in the future.

Huawei said last month it would join hands with Changan Auto and CATL to launch an all-new upmarket car brand, and the first model under the brand would soon go into mass production.

“We will make joint efforts to strengthen made-in-China products and technologies, and offer users better travelling experience with our intelligent mobility solutions,” said Yu Chengdong, CEO of Huawei's Consumer BG.
