According to Nissan, the company sold 1,019,742 vehicles, including passenger vehicles (PVs) and commercial vehicles, during the first nine months this year, increasing 3.5% from a year ago.
The automaker’s joint venture, Dongfeng Motor Co. & Ltd. (DFL), had a year-to-date PV sales volume of 829,327 vehicles (including the Nissan and Venucia brands), representing a 2.7% notch up year on year. The light commercial vehicle sector of the group sold 181,064 vehicles cumulatively (including Dongfeng Automobile Co. & Ltd. and Zhengzhou Nissan), rising 15% from the previous year.
In September, Nissan Motor sold 104,443 passenger and commercial vehicles in China, dropping 26.2% year on year. The company attributed it to external factors such as the pandemic, the chip shortage, the slowing down of the economy, and the fierce competition among the light commercial vehicles field.
Passenger vehicles were sold 84,754 vehicles in September, decreasing 28.9% from 2020, while the commercial vehicles sector saw a slighter decline of 6.7% to 18,551 vehicles from last year.
Despite the various challenges the auto industry faces, Nissan Motor still managed to introduce the new X-Trail and the Venucia V models in China, along with the first Chinese model of the e-POWER at the end of September. “Nissan Motors’s new product debut is on schedule, accelerating the electrification layout in China,” said Shohei Yamazaki, the senior vice president of Nissan Motor.
