Chongqing to build over 2,000 supercharging stations by 2025

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- China's Chongqing Municipal Government recently issued a document announcing its major administrative decisions for 2024. Among these, it outlined a new action plan for the implementation of supercharging facilities for new energy vehicles (NEVs), aiming to have constructed more than 2,000 supercharging stations and more than 4,000 supercharging piles by 2025.

The plan is designed to create a robust charging infrastructure system primarily focusing on supercharging, enabling seamless integration and interaction between NEVs and the power grid. As part of the plan, all the newly built public fast-charging stations in Chongqing's central urban areas should have supercharging capabilities. Existing charging stations will also undergo gradual transformation into supercharging stations, forming the "1-kilometer supercharging circle".

By 2025, Chongqing is set to to densely deploy supercharging infrastructures in the central urban areas, with 1,340 supercharging stations established. An additional 430 stations will be built in the main urban new districts and Wanzhou District, 100 in the northeast and southeast regions, and 170 at highway service areas.

As for the site selection, Chongqing will prioritize key locations such as public parking lots, commercial areas, gas stations, metro facilities, squares, green spaces, and highway service areas. In terms of technological advancement, Chongqing will support the construction of liquid-cooled supercharging stations with single-gun power output exceeding 480 kW. Additionally, vehicle manufacturers will be encouraged to integrate supercharging into the functionalities of new energy vehicle products.
