Huawei publishes pending patent to measure water depth for vehicles
Beijing (Gasgoo)- Chinese tech giant Huawei Technologies Co.,Ltd. made public a patent on July 23, which describes a method and device to measure the water depth for vehicles, to help vehicles avoid potential risks, according to Chinese data provider Qichacha.
Different from current technologies which measure the water depth after the vehicle drives into waterlogged areas, Huawei’s method can do the measuring before the vehicle wades through the area.
First, the method will collect the photo information of the waterlogged area with in-vehicle cameras. Based on the information from the camera, the method can obtain the spatial location information and the slope angles of the roadsides. Then the method will analyse the location information of the deepest waterlogged area, and after that the vehicle will know the highest water depth.
According to the patent abstract, the method can be used to improve vehicles’ ADAS capability, and can be applied to the Internet of Vehicles, such as V2X, LTE-V and V2V applications.
Last week, Huawei Technologies Co.,Ltd. was reported to apply for the registration of the trademark“Autoware”, which will be used to name an open-source software for autonomous driving technologies.
