Tesla to open new data, R&D centers in China soon
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Tesla China announced today that since the construction of Gigafactory Shanghai R&D Innovation Center and Gigafactory Shanghai Data Center has been finished, it will start the operation of both centers soon, further enhancing its localization in China.

Tesla said in a statement, in accordance with the requirements of Shanghai Data Center Construction Guidelines (2021 edition), Tesla has completed relevant approval process and filing for data center, and set up the Gigafactory Shanghai Data Center, which will be used to store operation data, like factory production data in China.
The R&D Innovation Center is the American electric vehicle company’s first complete vehicle development center outside the United States and includes software, hardware, material, power and energy engineering teams. In the future, the R&D center will conduct more original development in various segments, including complete vehicles, charging facilities and energy products.
Tom Zhu, president of Tesla Greater China, pointed out that the innovation center will not only push Tesla’s localization to a new chapter, but also provide an example for local talents cultivation of the industry. Besides, the efforts will help to accelerate the system prosperity of ground-up development approach.
Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO, said at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference 2020 that Tesla is going to do original engineering and design in China and that it’s not just converting sort of stuff from America to work in China.
