Capital of Henan province to build intelligent connected vehicle cluster worth $30 billion

Beijing (Gasgoo)- Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan province plans to build an intelligent connected vehicle industry worth RMB200 billion ($30 billion), according to the implementation scheme released by the municipal government of Zhengzhou.

The city aims to establish a preliminary management system of AI technology and reach a leading level of AI-promoted innovation, industrial development, and economic performance nationwide. 

Specifically, the city plans to build an intelligent sensor cluster valuing RMB100 billion ($15 billion), introducing 20 high-level AI teams and incubating 30,000 AI-related talents via the talent recruit project.

With the help of the Henan Academy of Sciences and Yutong Bus, Zhengzhou will build a research institute dedicated to the autonomous driving industry. With Zhengzhou University’s R&D foundation, the city will build an intelligent MEMS pilot-scale test base. 

As for real-life practice, Zhengzhou plans to expand the application scenarios for intelligent connected vehicles. Specifically, the city will initiate demonstration operations for 5G-connected V2X micro buses, standard buses, passenger vehicles, self-driving street cleaning vehicles, and C-V2X technology in selected areas, including Zhongyuan Science and Technology City, Zhengzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone, Zhengzhou High-tech Area, and Zhongmu County. 

The city aims to put 3,000 autonomous vehicles into operation in three years, gradually realizing commercial operation in open and complex traffic conditions. Eventually, the city will form an intelligent mobility system connecting major transportation hubs, CBD areas, and high-tech parks.
