The permit signified that Baidu’s urban ANP (Apollo Navigation Pilot) deployment was expanded by another city, making Baidu the first company across the industry to hold high-level urban assisted driving map permits for three cities.
As a kind of high-precision map, advanced assisted driving map supports the L2-L3 autonomous driving function of intelligent vehicles, and plays an auxiliary role in navigation, perception, positioning, and decision making. Baidu has been investing in the R&D of high-precision maps since 2013. According to the tech giant, it is currently the only company in China that not only possesses leading technology of high-precision map, but also provides complete solutions for autonomous driving.
Notably, Baidu Map has just released its self-developed "BeiDou High Precision" integrated precision positioning and navigation technology, which complements its proprietary high-precision integrated AI acquisition technology. The two technology sets are able to help Baidu’s urban ANP function to more accurately identify hundreds of targets including traffic signs, lane lines, signal lights, and so on, intelligently guide users to avoid emergency occurrences and merge into the desired lane in advance in a more real-time manner, as well as provide lane-level alerts more safely.
