This groundbreaking test, spanning approximately 62 kilometers, took place in designated areas such as the Deep-Water Port Logistics Park and the Donghai Bridge, which are public testing roads for autonomous driving. Throughout the entire test route, there were no safety personnel on board, and no human intervention was required, said TuSimple.
TuSimple's autonomous truck demonstrated its robust capabilities in handling complex road conditions, including traffic signal recognition, merging onto and exiting highways, changing lanes, maneuvering around emergency vehicles, navigating partially closed lanes, and coping with foggy and crosswind weather scenarios.
To ensure public safety during the full unmanned testing, TuSimple maintained close cooperation and communication with relevant government regulatory and law enforcement agencies. Additionally, safety support vehicles were deployed to ensure the operational safety of the fully unmanned testing.
TuSimple’s fully unmanned testing project in China has been underway for over two years, focusing on the development of an autonomous driving system that meets the requirements of SAE Level 4 autonomy. The company has prioritized the redundancy, reliability, and stability of the system to achieve safe operations on public roads with fully unmanned capabilities.
